Dreamy Eats | Scout

Scout Wall

Located in the beachside suburb of Torbay, Scout is named after the local Sea Scouts club and offers fresh, internationally inspired food as well as organic & ethical coffee. Owned by the people who brought you Hello Friends + Allies, it was also created in collaboration with ctrl Space Ltd and Kokako Organic Coffee Roasters.

The cafe has a light-hearted, cheerful vibe, featuring beech wood with soft pastel tones of pink and green. With plenty of seating options, my friend and I sat in front of the window to make the most out of the sunny day. We ordered a Flat White and Matcha Latte to start, followed by mains. My friend chose the 12 Hour Braised Short Ribs with sesame brioche, almond tarator and pickled cucumber w/ radish & watercress. It came in a generous portion, and the meat was deliciously juicy, tender and full of flavour.

I chose the Brulee French Toast w/ streaky bacon, served with passionfruit, fermented strawberries, dulce de leche, vanilla & green tea mascarpone & matcha crumble. It looked absolutely incredible; possibly the most beautiful & colourful breakfast dish I’ve had! I especially loved the dulce de leche sweet caramel, super smooth & creamy mascarpone, and tasty bacon.

We left dessert for next time, though it was definitely hard with the cabinet showcasing assorted tempting treats – red velvet cake, cream filled doughnuts, passionfruit slice and lemon curd coconut cake, just to name a few!

We left Scout very happy patrons. I’d like to add that I love the exotic dishes – it’s refreshing seeing Japanese, Chinese, French, Mexican and Lebanese inspired food on the menu, along with plenty of vegetarian / healthy options. There’s truly something for everyone.
