Today I’m excited to share with you my thoughts on the Inika Certified Organic Liquid Foundation! I’ve been wanting to make over my makeup collection for a while now, and finally my current foundations are starting to run out. So I’m thrilled that this is my first organic, vegan friendly, cruelty free foundation. So, how did it measure up?
This foundation comes in a sophisticated pump bottle that’s incredibly easy to use. It’s packed with natural ingredients, shown here in the ingredients list. I’m overjoyed that aloe vera leaf juice is the top ingredient, as cosmetic ingredients are required to be listed in descending order of concentration. It also contains avocado oil, jojoba oil, shea butter, green tea, cocoa seed butter, coconut oil, olive oil, rosehip oil, and evening primrose oil… Just to name a few!
Of course, this made the foundation very attractive to me, since I’m actively pursuing conscious consumerism. It also contains hyaluronic acid, which can hold up to 1000x its weight in water, providing rich hydration for your skin.
This foundation is available in six shades: Porcelain, Cream, Nude, Beige, Honey and Tan. It was easy and simple finding exactly the shade I wanted: I match Nude, but as always, I went with a slightly warmer shade and purchased Beige.
When I first used this, I thought, “Oh, it’s so watery… And uneven.” The texture was incredibly light, and the colour pigment wasn’t even. In fact, it seemed to come out darker than I had remembered.
However, as I blended, the foundation magically settled and became flawlessly smooth and even. The colour also subtly lightened, becoming the Beige shade I’d loved and chosen. The result was amazing!
As I mentioned, compared to other foundations, the initial texture is extremely light and watery (FYI, I’m currently using up my Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Le Teint and Illamasqua Rich Liquid Foundation). However, I’m happy to say it blends in before you know it!
Although light, the foundation is buildable to medium coverage – here I’m wearing about a full pump. My skin is fairly smooth, but as you can see, my skin concerns are uneven skin tone and pigmentation: my freckles, spots, and dark skin around the corners of my mouth. The foundation does a fantastic job of evening out all of these, and I definitely think my skin looks much more fresh and youthful!
Inika claims that there is no oily residue, and this is absolutely true. Even without powder, it doesn’t look oily, or obvious that I’m wearing foundation. It has a natural, dewy finish that blends right into my skin. I also love the soft scent.
The only thing lacking is SPF, so I use an SPF50 sunscreen underneath. Alternatively, Inika also has a loose mineral foundation with SPF25. On the plus side, no SPF also means it’ll stay looking perfect even in flash photography.
Overall, I love this foundation and would certainly recommend it for anyone looking for an organic, ethically made foundation that provides hydration, great coverage and natural goodness for your skin. It’s definitely my new go to foundation for everyday use; light, natural & weightless! ❤
