Delicious brunch and sunshine is definitely my favourite way to spend a Sunday morning. Last Sunday, my partner, future sister-in-law and I had a psychic moment when we all decided on the same cafe at the same time: Honey Cafe in Takapuna! The gorgeous beachside suburb is one of my favourite places in the world, so today I’d love to share with you my thoughts on just one of their amazing eateries.
Honey Cafe is fresh, colourful, and spacious; with homely accents and a fresh greenery wall. You’ll be treated to a menu that varies between sweet treats, savoury, hearty dishes and health-conscious meals, which is fantastic, because this week, I started a vegetarian diet!
I chose the Brioche French Toast, complete with caramelised banana and honeycomb mascarpone, and added portabello mushrooms & kumara smash as sides. The perfect sweet & savoury mix, it was simply phenomenal – my highlight was the creamy mascarpone.
My partner and his sister’s partner both chose the Honey Eggs Benedict, with potato croquettes, homemade hollandaise sauce, poached eggs, fresh baby spinach, and beetroot puree. As for drinks, my partner’s sister loved the Green Juice made with kale, spinach, mint, green apple, cucumber and coconut water, and likewise, I loved my Spirulina Smoothie – kale, chia, spinach, banana, raw green apple juice, spirulina and coconut water. Super refreshing choices for the early morning!
As always, the service was friendly, but you may have to be patient in regards to the food – it took at least half an hour for us, but at such a popular time, this was understandable.
I had a great time at one of my favourite local cafes on the North Shore. The rest of my cozy Sunday was spent reading – I’m currently reading Eckhart Tolle’s The Power of Now and A New Earth – and being part of a very fun and liberating cacao ceremony & ecstatic dance at wellness sanctuary, Kawai Purapura in Albany.
I hope you all had an amazing weekend!
