Hi friends, I hope you’re having a wonderful and relaxing Easter weekend!
Last weekend, my fiancé and I went on a little weekend getaway to my favourite city and second home: our capital, Wellington, New Zealand. We stayed two and a half days, which while short was plenty of time for us to see an incredible exhibition, eat delicious food, rest and recharge, and simply enjoy each other’s company. The purpose of our trip was to see the Terracotta Warriors at Te Papa Museum and celebrate my fiancé’s birthday. Happy Birthday, my love!
Today I visited a lovely vegan friendly cafe in Mt Eden by the name of The Midnight Baker. For the first hour or so, I enjoyed a good book while enjoying the cafe’s famous Freedom Loaf – a wholesome seeded bread high in protein, fibre & good fats – with spiced cookie almond butter, and a warm turmeric latte. Deceived by how little the toasts looked, I found them incredibly filling & nourishing! When my friend joined me for lunch, we had the red velvet latte, an Earl Grey tea, toasted banana bread and deconstructed ‘pulled pork’ tacos.
The ‘pulled pork’ part? It actually consists of jackfruit adobo, salsa, slaw, and an amazing vegan aioli I mistook for sour cream. (It was so delicious I asked for extra aioli.) The warm, rustic decor of the cafe along with wooden furniture & greenery added to the homely atmosphere. I’m happy to have found a spot perfect for healthy & natural food, or even simple, cosy mornings with a good book and a warm latte.
PS. My experience was made even better by the fact that the cafe was playing this song during my visit. Rest in Peace Mac Miller. ❤
